Stories from service
LGBTQI+ RPCVs share their service experiences here, to create a space for queer voices to be heard, and as part of Peace Corps’s third goal.
Peace Corps’s third goal is to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
The power of storytelling
As part of the mission of LGBTQI+ RPCVs we want to raise up the voices of this community. For many queer volunteers, their service was a time where their identities may have had to be minimized for safety or politics. It is our intention to use this space as a way for LGBTQI+ Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to share their stories and experiences from service. We invite Returned Volunteers to contribute to our blog or monthly podcast (or both).
We make these stories public so that those considering Peace Corps service, our friends and families, and others can learn from those who share. We invite you into this space and conversation and ask that you approach these stories with respect and discretion.
Meet our podcast: Volunqueers
Launched in November 2024, Volunqueers is a monthly podcast featuring interviews with LGBTQI+ RPCVs recording the LGBTQI+ experience within the Peace Corps, to share our perspective with those curious about or considering Peace Corps service.
The stories and opinions shared in the podcast are those of the individual and do not represent the opinions of the US Peace Corps, NPCA, or any other affiliates.
Transcripts are available for each Volunqueers episode. You can access transcripts when using the Spotify or Apple Podcasts apps.
